Dataphyte Academy, in collaboration with the Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, is organising a three-day Data Journalism Clinic for 300-level, 400-level, and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) students in the Department of Communication and Language Arts, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan.

The workshop is designed to introduce students to the principles, methods, tools, and practices of data journalism, combining theoretical sessions with practical, hands-on exercises. Participants will learn how to find and access relevant data, assess the credibility and quality of datasets, analyse and interpret data, and identify compelling story angles that can be developed into meaningful data-driven stories.

The clinic will also focus on the practical process of transforming data into clear, accurate, and engaging stories for both newsroom and public audiences. Through guided exercises, students will gain experience working with data, asking relevant questions, identifying patterns and trends, and communicating findings in ways accessible to diverse audiences.

Beyond journalism practice, the workshop will demonstrate how data journalism techniques can be applied to academic research, assignments, projects, and other forms of scholarly work. Participants will be encouraged to develop a critical understanding of how data can be used to investigate issues, support evidence-based reporting, challenge assumptions, and contribute to informed public discourse.

By the end of the three-day clinic, participants are expected to have a stronger understanding of the data journalism process and practical skills they can apply in their academic work, newsroom practice, research, and future journalism careers.
